As if Fashion Month wasn’t niche enough of an event as it is, it’s getting even more nuanced: Vegan Fashion Week has come to Los Angeles.

While veganism isn’t central to my platform (and is an ongoing conversation of eco-fashion’s animal rights debate), the creator behind this new Fashion Week wanted this event to be a space where individuals from various backgrounds come to engage with a more ethical industry (beyond just animal rights).
As such, she had me lead a talk about worker’s rights and labor exploitation in Los Angeles. “Cruelty-free” is a term that needs to encompass not just animal rights, but human rights as well.
Nevertheless, this new frontier is important for setting the tone for the alphabet soup of Fashion Weeks to come. Dear NYFW, LFW, MFW, PFW: you better work!
